Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  I tell you the truth, anyone, who will not receive the kingdom of God, like a little child, will never enter it."  And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.  (Mark 10:14-16)

 

At Gethsemane Lutheran,  children of all ages are invited, just as Jesus invited children of all ages to come into his arms.  Children are sinful, conceived and born with that horrible curse. (Psalm 51:5, John 3:6)  Therefore your children need Jesus.  They need to know that Jesus died for them, that Jesus has forgiven them, and that Jesus is the one and only way to eternal life.  

 

So there are a variety of things that we offer for children.  First, we offer baptism for children of all ages.  Through Baptism, the Holy Spirit is at work in a person's heart, joining that person to Christ's death and resurrection (John 3:5, Romans 6:3-7).  That's why, as the Scriptures teach, we baptize anyone, who needs to be baptized, regardless of their age, including infants.  Second, we encourage parents to sit with their children during the church service to receive Christ and the forgiveness, which Christ won for them.  Third, we have Sunday school every Sunday after church, where your child can gain a solid foundation of what the Scripture teaches.  Fourth, we have VBSs, where the children have lots of fun with snacks and games and songs, but, where most importantly Christ is proclaimed.
